Critical Reflection

 At the start of this effective communication module, my goal for this module is to improve my writing skills and public speaking skills. After these 13 weeks of effective communication, I feel that I have reached my goals as I was able to complete the tasks and assignments and had the opportunity to do a presentation to my peers and professor twice for the project proposal in front of the entire class. I also get to review my peers’ presentations. Therefore, I have gained a lot from this effective communication module.

All along, the thought of doing a presentation has made me nervous as I’m not very confident with my public speaking skills. However, with preparation and practice before the presentation, I was able to deliver my presentation. I could improve in the area of having eye contact with the audience while presenting. After presenting in front of my effective communication module’s classmates twice, I would say that I can deliver a presentation with less nervousness.

I had many opportunities to interact with my peers as we meet twice weekly for effective communication class, to discuss our sample letters, and to do a project proposal together. It has helped me to improve my English Language writing skills and public speaking skills. I also learned about the importance of teamwork. This module has indeed challenged me to do tasks assigned to me, my peers have been supportive in the areas of our project proposal. However, I feel that I could have done more so on my part so that we can complete the project proposal together. There were many pieces of advice given in class such as doing your part, cooperating with the team members to get the given project done, and focusing in class to get the current task done.

In the future, I will do my part more so that my team members do not have to carry the load that I am supposed to be carrying for myself. When I am allowed to do a presentation again, I would remind myself of the public speaking skills I have learnt, and to give a presentation that I could give at my best.

In conclusion, even though some difficulties were coping with this module for me, the takeaways for me in this module is meeting my new classmates and to be able to interact with them to do the tasks assigned to us. I’m thankful for this opportunity and for Professor Brad’s guidance and comments which helped me to improve on my public speaking skills and writing skills, and for my peers' honest feedback and review towards me. I’m also thankful for how my peers are understanding towards me and asked me if I needed help and that we were able to reduce any conflict between us.
